Old Baton Rouge Staple
by dirty_dan at Citysearch
I've been eating at La Fonda as long as I can remember. The food is really more Mexican than most of the other popular restaurants. Overall the quality of the food (taste & portions) is great. The best mexican drinks in Baton Rouge. Service is usually prompt and always friendly.
- Pros: Great Food, Good Pricing, Usually Prompt Seatin
- Cons: Dead Area of Baton Ro
Smelly
by Pamela Linton at Citysearch
I went to LaFonda's tonight and I have never walked in the back door to a horrific smell. It was even in the front of the restaurant. From what I was told it was a SEWER problem.
I think they need to be reported to the Health Department. I know I will NOT be going back for a very long time. I agree with Number2bluebird that the place needs an update. But I don't think a cleaning will do it....Get the sewer fixed!
Infact, had it not been for a birthday grouping I would have left because of the smell. I hope I don't get sick from the food.
Going down hill

We have been going to lafonda for many years and it is still the same, but the place needs an update and cleaning and if you are not going to keep it up dont keep going up on the food prices and drinks. The margaritas are not as good as they used to be, they are bitter and not the same, maybe leaving something out. everytime we go there the prices are up. Not putting any money back for cleaning or updating. If you are going to charge more, do something for it. You can bet the waitresses are not getting more money.
- Pros: Good food, usually fast service and friendly wait staff
- Cons: Not up to standards, closed on some days
