From pecan waffles to legendary hash browns, breakfast fare rules at this homey 24-hour chain restaurant--but don't miss the chili..
In Short
Since 1955, this Atlanta-based chain has welcomed an all-hours crowd of shift workers, suits, regulars and late-night partiers with comfy booths and an extensive menu of Southern-accented home-style grub. Waffles (pecan or regular) are the restaurant's most popular dish. Other breakfast favorites include porterhouse T-bone steak and eggs, country ham, and signature hash browns cooked seven ways, from smothered with onions to topped with chili or cheese. Another bargain is the bowl of chili, which comes topped with onions, ham and cheese.
Greasy and Hairy...and Not Even Cheap. I cannot believe Waffle House is the highest-rated breakfast spot in Baton Rouge! I have yet to visit a location that feels clean or provides anything other than greasy, cheap food with a complimentary hair from the chef mixed somewhere into your hashbrowns--yes, the saintly hashbrowns the other reviewer adores so much. Unfortunately, you pay much more than what you get--for just a buck or so more, you can visit IHOP and get the same meal with better ingredients, larger portions, and less grease in a clean, comfortable environment.
Hashbrowns Heaven. This place is similar to many breakfast (corporate) diners but there is no denying they sure know how to make some serious hashbrowns. I love it here, especially for those who are not used to 24 hour southern diners. Sure it can be a little weird occasionally, but the prices are cheap and the food is delicious.
