In Short – Church's Chicken first opened in 1952 across the street from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, selling only fried chicken. Today, the restaurant has locations across the U.S., and offers a variety of Southern specialties. In addition to fried chicken, the menu features Crunchy Tenders (white-meat chicken strips) and Texas Chicken: a half chicken with char-grilled flavored seasonings. Sides include Honey Butter Biscuits, Jalapeno Cheese Bombers, mashed potatoes with gravy and fried okra.

Probably one of the best locations in the city

by snedman at Citysearch

The individuals that run this location care about how the food is made and mindful of how it should be prepared. They are not little teeny boppers that haven't a clue about how foods should cook and be presented. Am I making this sound like a restaurant and not like a "Chicken place" well, thats good. Because it is hard to find places that can make food without totally destroying the quality of it because the card they are reading from says cook this long... This location also serves gizzards and livers. I have eaten gizzards at about 6 places in BR. These are some excellent gizzards and livers. Only place I have come across moister, non gristly gizzards and well seasoned is the gas station in Prairieville near new wal-mart. location is easy to get in and out of and it was average on the inside. The manager is very helpful and straightforward and willing to answer any questions you have. Chicken is moist and not overcooked. They generally make it fresh for you, which is welllll woth the extra few minutes of wait.

  • Pros: Cooks that know how to cook chicken and anything else relating to southern food
  • Cons: none
