What People Are Saying About Chimes

In Short – The Chimes is a popular choice for students and alumni. The spacious dining room is lined with hardwood floors and guests can sit at either one of the plush booths or at a larger glossed oak table. The menu offers a wide variety of Louisiana seafood from stuffed shrimp to oysters. For those shy of shellfish, salads and deli sandwiches are also served. After dinner time, beer becomes the main course for customers. Not only are there 60 different beers to try, but 10 are on tap.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- For classic Louisiana breakfast, Chimes serves brunch on Sundays. Call for exact times
- The Extras:
- Think you can handle a beer? How about 60? Chimes challenges guests to its "'Round the World" competition: try each of their 60 beers from 20 different countries and receive a T-shirt and your name on a plaque.

We really enjoyed the wide variety of the menu. The food was good, but don't be in a hurry...
Excellent Salads

Being taken here with friends from work for my birthday some years ago was a highlight of my career. I take visitors from out-of-town here. Salads are healthy and tasty. The bar does fine work with requests from quests. Vegetarians enjoy the fare. One can go there after taking guests to see the famous campus of Louisiana State University. Service is professional no matter how busy the restaurant is.The choice of beer on tap alone makes this worth a visit. The quality of the food is consistently ourstanding.
Rave for Chimes East
by usskidd at Citysearch
The Chimes East opened about a year ago on Coursey Blvd. and it's much improved over the original. I've taken out-of-town guests there and we all loved it. Seafood is excellent. Great red beans and rice. One of the few places left where you can get fresh-shucked oysters on the half shell and they're only 30 cents apiece from 4 to 7 p.m.
I've been for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch and the only complaint I have is that there's almost always a 20 to 30 minute wait, but they'll give you a pager and you can wander into the bar and work on your "round-the-world." It can get pretty noisy and boisterous when there's an LSU football game playing on the array of big-screen tv's scattered throughout the restaurant. There's outdoor patio service that can be very pleasant in the spring and fall or if you absolutely have to have a smoke.
