This is the second year we've had dealings with First Student Inc.. Last year we didn't receive the pick-up and drop-off times for our kindergartner until the day before school started. This is very inconvenient for working parents who need to know if they should enroll their child in morning/afternoon childcare. One childcare facility in particular didn't receive the schedule until 4:30pm the day before school began. They also didn't pick up my child on the first day of school...despite his presence in uniform, backpack and parents standing out at the end of the driveway. We even tried to wave her down but she just drove past. Apparently, even though we received a post card (the day before school started) our address wasn't on her list. Sigh. This year we are having the same problem with First Student. I called twice during the beginning of July to see when the bus schedules would be released to parents. Both times (and by two separate women) I was told to call back July 25th because that was when they had to present the bus schedule to the school board. When I called on the 27th I was told that they were still mapping routes and that parents will be mailed a postcard with further information on either August 6th or 7th....school begins on the 10th. The woman I spoke to (and her superior) both didn't know where I got the July 25th date and were very un-apologetic about being LIED to about the 25th date. Besides that, we've had a high driver turnover rate (5 drivers last year for the same bus) and the busses have been pretty unreliable as far as showing up on time. The pick-up time for our child was supposed to be 7:20am...the bus would show up any time between 7:00 and 7:45. A few times the bus never showed up at all...and I know this for a fact because everone in the neighborhood who had a child on that bus was upset. I want to know why 2 weeks before the start of school is WAY too early for them to have the bus schedule ready for parents.......
